The Onyx Supercar is a high-performance concept with powerful and futuristic aesthetics designed to explore Peugeot’s future design. Followed by the Onyx Supertrike and Onyx Superbike, they explore together Peugeot’s different worlds of mobility. The Onyx Supercar is the initial concept that has inspired a whole exclusive line of products.
The Onyx supercar is a dream car created by enthusiasts in order to explore innovative material use in the automobile. Its body combines carbon fibre and raw copper in a sharp new style with excellent aerodynamics (Cd 0.30). The two-seater cabin is largely created from natural materials such as felt, Newspaper Wood (100% recycled paper) and crystal. Combining these materials with a perfect driving position and intuitive ergonomics (including a small steering wheel and head-up display) provide a unique experience. The mid-mounted V8 HDi FAP diesel engine develops 600bhp and is further boasted by an 80hp electric motor.
The Onyx Superbike marks a return to its roots for the brand, with an exploration into the world of speed and efficiency. In 1998 Peugeot beat the bicycle world speed record for a descent , hitting 212.139 km/h on a snow covered hillside. Peugeot went on to create the first revolutionary and futuristic time trial bikes to be used in the Tour de France. Construction of the Onyx is largely in carbon fibre, including the frame, forks, wheels and cockpit. The shape designed for optimum aerodynamic performance and to present the smallest possible frontal area. The riding position is easily adjustable to ensure that the athlete is at one with Onyx Concept bike.
With its 2 front wheels the Onyx Supertrike presents a vision of the future of the scooter. The riding position adapts to rider’s needs, upright for the city, aerodynamic for the open road. The removable ClipBox provides a very practical storage solution, with its ability to accommodate two helmets, whilst its position in the bike helps lower the center of gravity. The Onyx concept trike is a plug-in hybrid, combining a 400cm3 engine with an electric motor, both driving the rear wheel. Consuming only 2L/100km, the trike has a range of over 30km at 50 km / h in full ZEV mode.
