PSP / Salt & Pepper Mill concepts

Salt and pepper mills, historical and iconic products from the Peugeot collection, are reshaped by Peugeot Design Lab to create two new concepts.

++

They were designed from the outset to be innovative, notably by the ability to measure out the seasoning precisely. The Peugeot Design Lab salt and pepper mills are not used vertically, directly above the dish or plate, but in an inclined position. Grains, once ground, fall first into a receptacle formed by the hollow surface of the body, allowing those freshly milled grains to then be applied in precise proportions.

The design of these mills is dynamic, elegant and streamlined, in a discreet reference to the design language of Peugeot. They combine the cold touch of aluminium in the technical areas, where precise and tough mechanical parts grind the grains, with the warmth and sensuality of the wooden grip.

While they can be placed vertically on the table, they were created to be displayed horizontally in a specially made plate, to highlight both their distinctive form and unique functionality.

PSP / herb grinder concept

Designed to cut all kinds of fresh herbs, this herb grinder concept was inspired by the mythical Peugeot coffee mill.

++

It was created to be both a functional and aesthetically pleasing object. As a practical tool it is usually reserved exclusively for the kitchen, but with this elegant new design it is equally at home at the table, alongside the salt and pepper mills.

Compact in size, it has a full, smooth and refined form, with sensual curves rather than sharp angles, creating a timeless and practical design: cleaning all the components is a simple task.

The base of the mill is made of aluminium, subtlety formed, which also can be used as a display. The mixing system consists of a steel cutting mechanism and a protective wooden cover. The whole assemble fits together in a natural and pleasing fashion.

Operating the mill is by a crank, connected by an easy circular motion directly to the cutting system. The mixed herbs are served directly into the main container. The presentation is beautiful and fresh, with the aromas preserved.

PSP/ coffee grinder concept

With a nod to coffee mills in old French cafes, the Peugeot Design Lab Coffee Grinder offers a modern and practical twist on this classic design.

++

Created in both manual and electric versions, it fits our individual lives and desires. For those who enjoy the tactile act of grinding the beans by hand a crank on top enables that traditional gesture while for those who prefer efficiency and swiftness, an electric motor is available at the touch of a button.

The design is simple and clean, with forms that serve to highlight the function and use. Inspired by the Peugeot design language, it has a scalloped surface at the bottom which reduces the volume of the mill to the essential minimum. The upper transparent part displays the coffee beans while indicating the filling level. After the beans are milled in the central area they fall to the lower part of the mill, arriving into a specially treated wooden receptacle.

Constructed in metal and wood, it is part precise and mechanical, part warm and sensual and at home in either a classic or contemporary interior setting.
