1970 - Revival of the moped
The motorcycle world had metamorphosed, with an extraordinary range covered by the French specialists in the 50 cc moped, the Italians masters of the scooter, and the American, English and German producers of motorcycles.
Peugeot developed an offensive strategy in three stages, with the 101 and 102 launched in 1969, then the 103 (photo) in late 1971. These made Peugeot the French moped market leader. Thanks to two new factories, in Romilly and in Saint Louis, Peugeot produced 800 000 mopeds a year during the 70’s.
This success was due to an exceptional image of a traditional and reassuring industry, which manufactured high quality products, tough yet elegant, without useless gimmicks.
